When designing a primary bathroom, the goal is often to create a space that balances beauty and functionality. For this renovation project, we focused on integrating universal design features while maintaining a neutral, timeless aesthetic. Read below to explore the material selections and design decisions that make this bathroom both accessible and inviting.
Curb-less Shower
A curb-less shower design eliminates tripping hazards and enhances the room's spaciousness. The shower floor is tiled with a herringbone pattern in a complementary color to the main flooring, providing necessary slip resistance and subtle visual contrast. The adjustable shower head, mounted on a vertical slide bar that doubles as a grab bar, adds functionality without sacrificing style. A horizontal grab bar, carefully selected to match the finish of the other fixtures, is discretely integrated into the design.

Vanity and Cabinetry
The vanity features soft-close drawers and tower cabinetry, offering ample storage at various heights for accessibility. We opted for a durable, easy-to-clean countertop in a light color with subtle veining. The cabinetry is finished in a medium wood tone, providing visual contrast against the lighter walls and countertops.
Fixtures and Hardware
Universal design considerations extend to the fixtures and hardware:
- Sink Faucet: Lever handles make it easy for individuals with limited dexterity to operate.
- Cabinetry Handles: Pull handles offer a comfortable grip and coordinate with the faucet and other hardware.
- Toilet Paper Holder: A dual-purpose holder that also functions as a grab bar ensures safety during transitions.
- Pivot/Tilt mirrors: Adjustable mirrors are functional for varying heights, including sitting or standing positions.

Lighting
Proper lighting is crucial in any bathroom. We installed sconce lighting on either side of the mirrors to provide even illumination, reducing shadows and enhancing visibility. The warm LED lighting ensures a flattering and comfortable environment.
Bidet Toilet
The bidet toilet enhances personal care with its advanced features and customizable settings, ensuring suitability for users of all needs. The intuitive control panel is easy to operate, while the sleek, compact design integrates seamlessly into the bathroom. Its thoughtful placement allows for adequate space on either side, promoting safety and accessibility.
Bringing It All Together
By thoughtfully selecting materials and integrating universal design features, this primary bathroom renovation achieves a harmonious blend of style and accessibility. Whether you’re planning for today or the years ahead, these design choices prove that a space can be functional, safe, and beautiful all at once.
